Director’s Statement
I set out to make a short film that shares a tone and sensibility and that explores some of the same aesthetic and practical challenges I intend for the feature, Kissed By Nightshade, for which I am currently in development.
The film is based on the poem, Mon Rêve Familier (1866) by Paul Verlaine, the great French Symbolist poet. I've always been attracted to his work and to this poem in particular for its strong evocation of a mood and feeling through use of imagery and musicality in the verse.
I hoped to accomplish, with this short film, a tone and emotion resembling that which the poem conjures for me.
